Dr Esra Baser’s Career Journey

Hume Osteo clinic has been open for 18 years and is located at Gladstone park. Esra Baser has been working at the clinic for three years, in 2019 she has been offered to take over the business. Once she started to run the clinic, she applied many changes and renovations. New forms of treatments have been introduced to the clinic including cupping, needling and many more. The clinic has developed more awareness of health and wellbeing to support the community.

Esra’s passion doesn’t only involve treating her patients, it’s getting to know them as well. She believes that understanding the individual and their lifestyle is just as important as understanding the way their body functions. Esra has a special interest in treating headaches, jaw pain, neck pain, lower back pain, sciatica, sports related injuries and prenatal care. She believes following up physical health is a factor of self-care.

Esra defines Osteopathy as more hands-on therapy and health care based system.

It is in the similar category as chiropractor and physiology, though Osteopathy looks at the body as a whole. The Osteopathic Physician focuses on Muscle, Ligaments, Joints, Nerves etc. They treat multiple cases like Back pains, Headaches, Sport injuries, Arthritis, Pregnancies and anything pain related and link to the muscular system. The Hume Osteo team examines the patient’s body and come up with a rehab program or treatment plan. The clinic doesn’t only base the patients in clinical treatment, they will refer them to further practices if needed for their cure, this may involve being referred to a Naturopath, Wet cupping profession, Podiatrists and many other needed practices. Once the treatment plans are successful, regular check-ups are required which will result patients to balance their physical health long term. Her given support to her patients is “Being able to wake up with a smile on your face, being able to move, being able to do what you love to do, is why we are here.”

Esra believes that she helps and supports the community by providing them a service that helps their quality of life. Treating pain allows their patients to complete their day to day activities healthier. Esra believes the community also supports her by trusting her to cure their pain. Social media has been a major support for Hume Osteo clinic, having positive reviews and patients posting photos of the clinic has been a successful advertisement. Esra records stats of her patients and 80- 90% of her patients have heard of her clinic from social media.

The Covid-19 pandemic has hit as an unexpected crisis across the globe. It has affected many businesses including Osteopathic clinics. Esra has supported the system and her patients very sensitively throughout the pandemic. She has improved her clinics hygiene for her staffs and patient’s health support. Walk in appointments have been removed, appointments have been arranged in a way where a new patient would walk in the clinic after one would leave.

Esra’s main advice to her patients is “Increase your quality of life.” Her recommendation is to never neglect your health, even if you are not experiencing pain there is always ways to improve your health. Movement is the key; she believes functional movement is an importance in our everyday life that will support or physical wellbeing. Her best description for movement is “Motion is Lotion and Rest is Rust”. As a community, we are grateful to have a health profession like Dr Esra Baser, who not only supports our physical health, but also supports our mental wellbeing. As the Turkish News Press family, we would like to thank Esra Baser for taking the time to do this interview with us and wish her the best in her future endeavours.
