More than 200,000 Victorians left without power as state sweltered

Australia’s politicians are largely to blame for a mass blackout which left hundreds of thousands of homes without power on the hottest day of the year. That’s the view of Nine Finance Editor Ross Greenwood who said people should be outraged over Friday’s power cuts which hit 60 towns in Victoria without electricity.

As the temperature climbed past a scorching 40C, large parts of Victoria were

plunged into electrical darkness as blackouts gripped the state. More than 200,000 people lost their air conditioners, refrigerators and fans for a number of hours as the grid struggled to keep up with the demands of thousands

of households trying to keep cool.

Speaking on the Today Show, Greenwood said politicians are largely to blame for the grid not having enough electricity to cope with demand.
